Kurdish Intergenerational Trauma

In this video, our Executive Director Brenda Hershey presents her research on Kurdish Intergenerational Trauma, formally presented at the International Conference of Social Work at the University of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on April 30, 2024.

The research includes results and discussion on the culmination of semi-structured interviews with 30 Kurdish Generation Z's and Millennials, illustrating the traumatic experiences and trauma symptoms of three generations: themselves, their parents, and their grandparents.

Highlighting both the path of intergenerational trauma and in that of the Kurdish experience, as well as collective Kurdish traumas, we're able to better understand how trauma can be transmitted, what that looks like, and practical ways that Gen Z's and Millennials are breaking trauma cycles.
